Listen to R. Kelly on iHeartRadio

Concert-goers in Monroe, Louisiana say they were scammed after an R. Kelly impersonator reportedly took the stage at an event slated to feature the singer.

According to Louisiana's KNOE news, R. Kelly was billed as the musical entertainment for "Ced's All Black Affair Birthday Extravaganza" at the Monroe Civic Center on Saturday, but some fans claim an impostor performed in his place.

One concert-goer concluded that she was "scammed" after watching the alleged impersonator lip-sync to several R. Kelly songs.  Many fans who attended the event are demanding their money back.

Meantime, the City of Monroe released a statement saying that they regret the "negative experience" patrons had at the event.  After receiving numerous complaints, the city says they've relayed those comments to the concert promoter, who they say is responsible for the event.
