At least one construction crane has collapsed in Miami due to Hurricane Irma. Part of the crumpled steel crane is draped over the edge of a building that's under construction. Even though the eye of Irma is about 50 miles to the southwest of downtown Miami, the city has suffered hours of howling winds and stinging rain.
Last week, the City of Miami said there are 20 to 25 construction cranes there, and there wasn't enough time to bring them down before the hurricane hit. It claimed that the cranes could withstand winds of up to 145 miles an hour.
