WHY WE STRUT
The goal of Sista Strut is to heighten awareness about the issues of breast cancer in women of color, as well as provide information on community resources. Studies show that African American women are more likely to get breast cancer at a younger age and have a death rate from breast cancer twice that of Caucasian women of the same age. Sista Strut recognizes the strength of survivors, their family and friends, heightens awareness, promotes early detection and the search for a cure. It is also a day to celebrate the mother daughter relationships within the African American Community
- Did you know African American women are more likely to get breast cancer at a younger age than other races?
- Did you know African American women are more likely to die of breast cancer than other races?
- Did you know African American women are 3 times more likely than white women to be diagnosed with Triple-negative breast cancer? Triple-negative breast cancer most commonly effects African-American women, followed by Hispanic women.
WHO WE BENEFIT
Concerned Black Nurses Of The CSRA
Concerned National Black Nurses of CSRA, Inc. is an organization that promotes positive influences and encourages excellence in clinical practice as the primary goal for nurses. We continue to endorse every effort to increase minority enrollments within the delivery of healthcare; either in nursing, medical, or any other healthcare discipline. Learn more HERE!
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a 12-week, FREE small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. Cancer survivors (those who are living with, through and beyond cancer) and the health professionals that support them are increasingly aware of the positive impact that moderate physical activity, supportive relationships and stress reduction techniques can have on quality of life.
