A coach for the Burke County Schools, Travis Thomas, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 14, and charged with on one count of felony sexual battery.
According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, complaints were lodged against him which involved a juvenile boy from the school.
The initial report was made directly to the sheriff’s office without notification to the school system. They notified the Burke County School System, who immediately placed Thomas on administrative leave. Thomas coaches middle school basketball, works as the equipment manager for the high school football team, and is a special education co-teacher at the high school. He was arrested and has seen been released on bail.
The investigation is still ongoing and according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, additional charges may be issued in the immediate future.
