Deadly Arctic Cold Wave Affects Millions Across the US

Millions of Americans are still dealing with extreme winter weather as a wave of Arctic air continues to move across the country. According to the National Weather Service, severe cold alerts remain in place for many states, with temperatures staying far below freezing. Forecasters say the cold weather is expected to last into next week.

Over the weekend, sleet, freezing rain, and heavy snowfall caused major problems. Roads became dangerous, flights were delayed, and power outages left about one million customers without electricity. Emergency crews worked around the clock to restore power and clear roads, but travel remained difficult in many areas.

Sadly, at least 34 deaths have been reported. Many were caused by hypothermia or accidents while removing snow. Officials are urging people to stay indoors when possible, dress warmly, and check on elderly neighbors and loved ones.

Shelters have opened in several cities to help those without heat or housing. Weather experts say this storm is one of the most dangerous cold waves this season because of how long it is lasting.

As the country continues to recover, leaders are asking communities to support one another and stay alert. This storm is a reminder of how serious winter weather can be and why preparation is so important.
