Sex abuse charges against R. Kelly have been dropped in his home state. The Cook County states attorney says Kelly is no longer facing charges of sexual abuse locally because of "extensive sentences" for federal crimes. The decision was made after the singer plead not guilty to 10 state-level charges of sexual abuse. It is cited that the prosecution process will be too expensive, a lack of resources and the fact that he will already serve a long sentence as reasons for dropping the charges.
R. Kelly is currently locked up at a federal correctional facility in downtown Chicago while he waits to be sentenced on other federal charges since being found guilty of child pornography possession. It is likely he will be in his mid 80s or older before being released from jail.
This has to be one of the most disheartening moves for his accusers, however the states attorney did notify them before the announcement was made.
