Today Augusta Commissioners approved zoning for a new Aldi grocery store at 3121 Peach Orchard Road, near the Bobby Jones interchange.The building would be more than 19,000 square feet replacing what is currently the home to the University Health Care’s South Augusta Campus.
According to an Augusta-Richmond County Planning Commission report, the grocery store chain has applied to demolish the office building and construct a 19,209 square foot store. While the Planning Commission has recommended approval, there are a few stipulations, including ensuring that lighting will be directed away from nearby homes, and large trucks won’t be parked near those homes. The Augusta Commission’s approval was required because of the square footage of the proposed store.
According to the company’s website,ALDI has over 2,000 stores in 36 states and almost 20 countries. If all goes as planned this will be the fifth in the CSRA. Other Aldi stores are in Augusta, Grovetown, North Augusta, and Aiken
