Trending News: SNL50, Kanye, Trump Surge & Denzel's Othello Mishap

Get ready for an unforgettable celebration this Valentine's Day as Saturday Night Live marks its 50th anniversary with a very special event. SNL50: The Homecoming Concert is a three-hour extravaganza streaming live on Peacock from Radio City Music Hall in New York. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the concert promises legendary musical performances and classic sketch comedy that highlight the enormous cultural impact SNL has had over the last 50 years. This epic event airs on Friday, February 14th.

In other news, Kanye West stirred up controversy with his Super Bowl commercial. We now understand why the 30-second ad wasn’t widely seen. According to TMZ, FOX only approved Kanye’s commercial, which promoted his Yeezy.com site, for air in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Atlanta. Initially, the website featured the usual lineup of Yeezy athletic gear. However, it had been dramatically altered by Sunday to feature just one item: a white t-shirt emblazoned with a large swastika, selling for $20. It’s hard to believe that Kanye spent $8 million on a campaign that ended up offending millions.

Meanwhile, a recent YouGov poll reported by CBS News reveals a surprising surge in Donald Trump’s approval ratings. With 53 percent of respondents approving of his actions so far—a significant jump from the 33 percent approval rating he held when he left office in 2021—Trump’s agenda is resonating with many. The poll shows strong support for his plans, including his approach to immigration and his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict. However, tariffs on Mexico, Europe, and Canada remain contentious, and two-thirds of those polled feel that the Trump administration hasn’t done enough to lower household prices. As one might ask, when will the price of milk and eggs finally go down?

And in a lighter note from the world of entertainment, Denzel Washington recently opened up during a podcast with The New York Times about a near mishap while preparing for his return to Broadway. Rehearsing for the revival of Shakespeare’s Othello—which will run at the Ethel Barrymore Theater on Broadway from March 25th through June 8th—Denzel revealed that he almost bit his tongue off, leaving it swollen and affecting his speech. He shared one of his challenging lines: “Whither will you that I go to answer, this your charge?” and joked that he might need a little help with his lines.
